The Long Island Advance, historically known as The Advance and The Patchogue Advance, is a weekly newspaper established in 1871. In its early years, the newspaper covered news for much of Suffolk County.
Volunteers from the Patchogue-Medford Library Genealogy Research Group have undertaken the enormous task of extracting birth, marriage and death announcements from The Long Island Advance for the purposes of creating an electronic index. Credit for this index goes to Diana Erickson, Gloria Fleming, Dolores Frank, Charles Pilger and Debbie.
Our volunteers have extracted these announcements for the years 1876 to 1926. This is a work in progress. To date, names entered electronically extend from December, 1876 to 1926.
The Long Island Advance is available on microfilm from 1872 to the present at the Library. The current online version of The Long Island Advance can be found at http://www.longislandadvance.net.
