Kings County (Brooklyn), N.Y. -- History
Note: Kings County, better known as Brooklyn, is a County of New York State.
After 1899, it voted to become a Borough (the most populous, after Manhattan,
of Greater New York City). It is also western-most of Long Island's 4 counties.
Though physically part of Long Island, like Queens, Kings can choose to
consider itself part of NYC or Long Island, depending on circumstances.
Hence, the often confusing distinction between Long Island (in general) and
L.I. "proper" (Nassau and Suffolk).]
